By County Executive Charlie Dooley
WHEREAS, The St. Louis Modern Chinese School was founded in 1997 as a non-profit organization to teach Chinese language for students of all ages from all ethnic backgrounds and to enhance the multicultural environment of the greater St. Louis area; and
WHEREAS, The school started with 40 students in 1997 and currently has over 800 students enrolled each semester making it one of the largest Chinese Language School in the United States; and
WHEREAS, the goals for the new home of the Modern Chinese Language School is to provide a place for people to gather together to learn to speak Chinese, celebrate cultural activities, a place to bridge cultural differences between the East and West; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of tremendous contributions by the St. Louis Modern Chinese School and the dedication of its new home and cultural center;
NOW, therefore I, Charlie A. Dooley, County Executive, St. Louis County, Missouri, do hereby proclaim Sunday, September 9, 2012 as
Chinese Language Day
in St. Louis County.
